N I C K   A N D R E W - titles

The titles of my paintings are deliberately ambiguous; chosen to encourage curiosity, 
to heighten the sense of mystery and to, hopefully, add something to the enjoyment of 
the painting. They are the result of research into the origins of words which describe 
particular features or events in and around the locality of the painting. Often they are 
things which don’t appear in the picture, it’s just that I know they are or were there!

These origins might be Old English, Latin or other old languages. Often I use the 
Latin names of plant and animal classification. I also often combine words or parts of 
words until I find a name which I like and which seems to ‘fit’ the picture.
